Wedding video editing software for PC, compared.

EDIUS, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Filmora, CapCut and Vantacut: what each is built for, in its maker’s own words, and how wedding studios in India can put them together for the traditional film, the highlight and the teaser.

Start from the films you deliver

An Indian wedding job is rarely one film. Many studios deliver a long traditional video that keeps every ceremony in order, a highlight cut to a song, often a teaser, and sometimes a pre-wedding film or a same-day edit for the reception screen. The traditional film is cut by hand and checked against the run-of-show; the highlight is chosen from hours of candid footage and set to music. Those are different jobs, so the right question is not which single editor is best, but which tool does which film.

EDIUS

EDIUS is a Windows editor, for Windows 10 (64-bit) and Windows 11, built to play several layers of 4K in real time with native support for recent cameras and codecs. It is a one-time purchase through resellers, with free updates for the life of a version, and it needs an internet connection to activate and then once a month. Its AI tools include noise removal, an automatic colour correction filter and speech to text for markers. Its product page describes no feature that assembles an edit: in EDIUS you build the film by hand, which is exactly what a traditional film needs.

Premiere Pro

Premiere Pro is sold only as a membership, monthly or annual. Its Text-Based Editing builds a rough cut from a transcript of what people said, and its AI can fit a music track to your clips. For finishing it has titles, captions and graphics from templates, and caption translation in 18 languages. It suits a studio that already finishes everything there and cuts films led by speech: interviews, speeches and the parts of a wedding where the words carry the moment.

DaVinci Resolve

Resolve is a colour and finishing suite that also edits, on Mac, Windows and Linux. There is a free version, and DaVinci Resolve Studio is a one-time purchase that adds AI tools such as face recognition and auto colour matching. Its colour page grades with nodes, and Fairlight handles audio post with up to 2,000 tracks. Assembly is by hand, with sync bin and multicam tools. Choose it when the look is the job, or grade there after the cut is made.

Filmora

Filmora is an all-round editor for creators, with a desktop app for Windows and macOS and apps for phones and tablets. It is built around social content, brand videos and tutorials, with templates, Auto Beat Sync, removing pauses and AI media analysis that looks for people, scenes and key moments. There is a free version that watermarks exports, subscriptions that renew automatically and a perpetual plan, and many AI features use AI credits. It suits an editor who makes many kinds of short video, not only weddings.

CapCut

CapCut is a fast social editor across phone, web and desktop, with desktop apps for Windows and macOS, auto captions and editable templates, a free tier and Standard and Pro subscriptions. On 21 October 2026, capcut.com answered a request from an Indian connection with HTTP 451, the status a website sends when it withholds a page for legal reasons. We have not found an official statement of its status in India, so check that it works where you are before you plan a job around it.

Vantacut

Vantacut is a desktop editor for Windows 10 or later and Linux (Ubuntu 24.04 or later), with macOS coming. The editor, the colour page and export are free with an account. Its Auto-Edit makes the first cut of a highlight: it watches the whole day’s footage, hears speech in 22 Indian languages and English, asks up to three questions about who matters, the tone and what to leave out, shows a plan, then lays the reel on a new timeline of ordinary clips, cut on the song’s beat. Only Auto-Edit uses credits, charged by the minute. Your original footage never leaves your computer.

Traditional and candid, in one studio

A workable split for many studios: cut the traditional film by hand in the editor your team already knows, and make the first cut of the candid highlight and the teaser with Auto-Edit from the same cards. Each clip is only watched once, so the teaser is a second run on a shorter song that pays for its own minutes only. Then finish the highlight in Vantacut, or export it and finish where you finish everything else. Nobody has to give up the tool they are fast in.

Your footage stays on your computer

Editing, playback and export run on your computer, and your original footage and songs never leave it. To find moments, Auto-Edit shares low-quality copies of your clips, still frames and the speech, and the app asks once before anything is sent. The editor works worldwide, in English; credit packs are priced in Indian rupees.

Questions

What is the best video editing software for an Indian wedding?

The one that fits the film you are making. Cutting every ceremony by hand suits an editor built for that, such as EDIUS, Premiere Pro or Resolve. Making the first cut of the highlight from the whole day’s footage is the job Vantacut’s Auto-Edit is built for, and many studios will use both.

Is there free wedding video editing software for PC?

Several have a free way in. DaVinci Resolve has a free version, Filmora has a free version that watermarks exports, and CapCut has a free tier. The Vantacut editor, colour page and export are free with an account; only Auto-Edit uses credits.

Do I have to change editors to use Auto-Edit?

No. Make the first cut of the highlight in Vantacut, then finish it there or export the movie as MP4, MOV or WebM and bring it into the editor you already use. It arrives as one rendered movie.
