Local AI video editor.

A local AI video editor keeps your originals on your drive. Editing, playback and export run on your computer; only Auto-Edit’s analysis uses the network, on low-quality copies, after asking once.

Not for: Not a cloud editor, and not an upload-the-whole-day service.

What stays local

Your original footage and songs, the timeline and the export. Nothing is copied or moved. That is the point of a local AI video editor when the footage is a client’s day.

Import reads, it does not copy

Add a card or a folder and Vantacut reads the clips from your drive where they already are. Nothing is copied or moved, so the footage keeps the folders you gave it. Heavy footage gets light proxies, so playback stays smooth, and you can skim any tile to scrub through it and mark In and Out right in the bin.

The first pass runs on your computer

Turn on AI analysis and Vantacut starts watching the footage for the best moments. The first pass runs here, on your machine. Each clip is only watched once, and if you close the app it picks up where it left off, so a long day can be analysed across more than one sitting.

What leaves, and only then

To find moments, Auto-Edit shares low-quality copies of your clips, still frames and the speech with the AI services it uses, after the app asks once. Never a full-resolution frame, and never the originals or the songs.

Faces are their own switch

Finding the people in your footage is its own switch, and it stays off until you turn it on. Faces are detected on your computer. A few face pictures of people who appear often are shared, to ask you who is who. If a shoot’s contract rules that out, leave the switch off.

Offline, and what waits for a connection

Sign in once, and playback, the timeline and export never wait on the network after that. Import, trim, grade and render on a plane or at a venue with no signal. Auto-Edit does need a connection, so on a job with no internet, leave it for when you are back online.

Export on the same computer

The reel renders on your machine, from your originals, at full resolution: MP4, MOV or WebM, with GPU encoding where your graphics card supports it. There is no upload and no render queue, so the file you deliver has never been anywhere but your drive.

Why it matters

Client contracts often limit where a shoot may be stored. Keeping the originals on your own computer makes that promise easy to keep. Finish in Vantacut, or export the movie and finish wherever you already work.

Questions to ask any local editor

“Local” gets used loosely, so ask four things. Do the originals ever leave the computer? What exactly is sent, and at what quality? Does it ask before anything is sent? Does editing still work with the network off? Vantacut’s answers: never; low-quality copies, still frames and the speech, plus a few face pictures if you turn faces on; yes, once; and yes, after you sign in once.
