The job
Both make the first cut. Decide where you want to finish it: in Premiere Pro, Resolve or Final Cut with the original clips linked, or on Vantacut’s own timeline, colour page and export.
Side by side
| Question | WedCut | Vantacut |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | A desktop app for Apple silicon and Intel Macs and for Windows 10 or 11. | A desktop app for Windows 10 or later and Linux (Ubuntu 24.04 or later); macOS is coming. |
| What leaves your computer | Footage stays on your machine; only individual frames from each clip are sent for the analysis. | Originals and songs never leave it. Auto-Edit shares low-quality copies of your clips, still frames and the speech, after asking once. |
| Where the first cut lands | An FCPXML or EDL file: the cut opens in Premiere Pro, Resolve or Final Cut as a sequence with the original clips linked. | A new timeline of ordinary clips inside Vantacut, with titles, effects, masks, a colour page and export. It does not write a project for another editor. |
| How the cut is steered | It culls the footage, finds the moments and builds the first cut to your music. | A theme and an optional brief; Auto-Edit asks up to three questions about who matters, the tone and what to leave out, then shows its plan. |
| How you pay | Per wedding, by footage size; the analysis is paid once, and generating, regenerating and exporting edits are free. A PRO membership includes a number of videos a month. | The editor is free with an account. Auto-Edit is charged in credits by the minute: new footage once, then each reel. |

Closer than most comparisons
Most pages in this section compare Vantacut with a tool built for a different job. WedCut is built for the same one: the first cut of a wedding, set to your music, made from footage that stays on your computer. Both send only a reduced form of the footage for analysis, both leave the finish to you, and both treat the first cut as a draft rather than a film. The differences are in where the draft lands, which computers they run on, and how you steer the cut before it is made.
Your editor, or ours
WedCut exports FCPXML and EDL, so the cut opens in Premiere Pro, Resolve or Final Cut as a sequence with your original clips linked. If your studio finishes everything in one of those, that is a real advantage: no rendered file, every cut still adjustable where you already work. Vantacut is the editor itself. The reel opens as a new timeline of ordinary clips, beside a colour page with wheels, curves, LUTs and scopes, and you export the film from the same place. If you finish elsewhere, export the movie as MP4, MOV or WebM; it arrives as one rendered file, so do the structural editing in Vantacut first.
Speech, questions and the plan
Vantacut’s Auto-Edit hears speech in 22 Indian languages and English, so a pandit, a nikah, the vows and the toasts can count as moments, and a kept line stays audible with the song ducked under it. Before it cuts, it asks up to three questions only you can answer, then shows the plan. Each clip is only watched once, so a teaser from the same footage pays for its own minutes only. WedCut’s pages describe culling, finding the moments and cutting to your music; check them for how much you can steer the cut before it is made.
Your footage stays on your computer
Editing, playback and export run on your computer, and your original footage and songs never leave it. To find moments, Auto-Edit shares low-quality copies of your clips, still frames and the speech, and the app asks once before anything is sent. The editor works worldwide, in English; credit packs are priced in Indian rupees.
